Auf nach Chemnitz zum Forum
Aufruf für Beiträge jeder Art
Seit 10 Jahren treffen sich beim Recht auf Stadt-Forum einmal im Jahr Initiativen aus ganz Deutschland. 2025 wird es zum ersten Mal in Chemnitz stattfinden. Die Forderung Recht auf Stadt vereint Bewegungen, die sich für eine gerechte Stadt einsetzen. Angesichts des immer stärkeren Rechtsradikalismus, dem klimapolitischen Rollback und immer krasseren sozialen Ungleichheiten, ist der Widerstand dagegen sehr kräftezehrend. Deshalb braucht es linke Räume, um innerhalb der Bewegung wieder Kraft zu finden und sich auszutauschen. Die tollen Erfahrungen, die hunderte von Aktivist:innen in den vergangenen Jahren machen konnten, haben gezeigt: Einen solchen Raum schafft das Recht auf Stadt-Forum. Dort ist Platz für Austausch und Inspiration, Kontroversen und Diskussion, gemeinsames Essen und Feiern und alles was Initiativen brauchen, um Energie zu tanken.
Das Forum ist eine gute Gelegenheit für lokale Initiativen, zu entdecken, dass ihre Problemstellungen, die strategischen Fragen, vor denen sie stehen, und die Lösungen, die sie gefunden haben, anderswo genauso existieren. So können wir nicht nur voneinander lernen, sondern auch eine starke bundesweite Bewegung werden, die lokal verankert ist aber auf allen politischen Ebenen gehört wird. Nur zusammen sind wird stark!
Warum Chemnitz? Chemnitz vereint als Großstadt Probleme wie sie auch in anderen wachsenden Metropolregionen zu finden sind, mit Fragen die sich vielen Mittelstädten in Bundesländern der ehemaligen DDR stellen. Schrumpfung, ein starker demographischer Wandel, Leerstand, Rechte Raumnahme werfen Fragen nach dem Recht auf Stadt auf. Chemnitz bietet Raum, und dieser ist umkämpft. In einer Stadt, die (noch) bezahlbar ist, soll mit dem Großevent der europäischen Kulturhauptstadt 2025 Leerstand reaktiviert, das Image verändert und die Stadt attraktiv für Investor:innen werden. Gleichzeitig wird die Förderung für Kultur und Soziales massiv gekürzt und Orte müssen schließen, rechte Strukturen und ihre teils jahrzehntelangen Kontinuität verschwinden im Hintergrund und werden kaum betrachtet.
2025 ist ein wichtiges Jahr, in dem die Stadt ins Rampenlicht rückt: Chemnitz, die sogenannte „Stadt der Moderne“ wird zur „Kulturhauptstadt Europas“ (zusammen mit Nova Gorica/Gorizia) und erfährt somit eine internationale mediale Aufmerksamkeit. Als Aktivist:innenszene, die das Forum organisiert, wollen wir dieses Ereignis kritisch hinterfragen: Was wird bei solchen Großevents sichtbar gemacht und was nicht? Was verstecken Slogans und Erzählweise an gesellschaftlichen und sozialen Fragen? Und wir wollen fragen, was das für die Praxis bedeutet: Wie können wir die Festivalisierung der Städte so nutzen, dass die relevanten sozialen und ökologischen Fragen des Rechts auf Stadt, sowie die Stärkung solidarischer Strukturen in den Vordergrund rücken und sicherstellen, dass es so bleibt?
Der richtige Ort im richtigen Jahr also, um zu zeigen, dass es in Chemnitz und darüber hinaus zahlreiche Initiativen gibt, die sich für ein Recht auf Stadt in allen seinen Dimensionen einsetzen. Durch Umverteilung, eine andere Art des Wirtschaftens und durch soziale Klimapolitik können wir dem Rechtsruck etwas entgegensetzen. Und dies geht nicht ohne Teilhabe an der Gesellschaft für alle, auch für die mit kleinem Geldbeutel und von rassistischer Diskriminierung Betroffenen. Das schaffen wir nur gemeinsam. Also, macht mit!
Was kann ich beitragen?
Das Forum lebt von euren Beiträgen, Themen und Kämpfen. Es können Workshops, aber auch Plena, Filme, Demos, Performances, Stadtspaziergänge und weitere Aktionen und Veranstaltungen organisiert werden. Die Themen des Forums bestimmt ihr mit euren lokalen Kämpfe in euren Regionen und Städten, bundesweit; sie sind so breit wie das Recht auf Stadt: Stadtpolitik, Wohnungsversorgung, Migration, ökologische Fragen, Zugang zu regionaler und gesunder Ernährung, Kultur, Queerfeminismus, Mobilität. Es geht aber auch um den ländlichen Raum, Freiräume, Leerstand, Umbau und Abriss.
Bonusprogramm: der Chemnitz Strang
Während des Forums wird sich ein Programmstrang explizit mit Chemnitz beschäftigen. Mit euch werfen wir einen Blick auf die Stadt, aktuelle und kommende Kämpfe, das Großprojekt Kulturhauptstadt Europas und suchen nach Möglichkeiten zur Stärkung der ansässigen Strukturen. Auch hier sind Einreichungen für Beiträge verschiedenster Form willkommen.
In der Regel dauert ein Beitrag 2 bis 2,5 Stunden.
Bitte reicht bis zum 28.02.2025 eure Vorschläge (max. 300 Wörter, Titel & Thema, Ablauf, Veranstaltende, Material und Raumbedarf) für Workshops und Veranstaltungen unter der Adresse info@rechtaufstadt-forum.de ein. Wir möchten alle Formate auf dem Forum möglichst praxisorientiert und interaktiv gestalten. Wir bitten euch, das bei euren Vorschlägen zu berücksichtigen. Ihr könnt mit mehreren Gruppen aus verschiedenen Städten einen Workshop anbieten, oder über Einzelkämpfe berichten: Wir lassen uns in der Programm AK gerne überraschen und passen eure Vorschlag unserem Rahmen (zeitlich, räumlich) entsprechend an!

Off to Chemnitz for the forum
Call for contributions of any kind
For 10 years, initiatives from all over Germany have been meeting once a year at the Right to the City Forum. In 2025, it will take place in Chemnitz for the first time. The Right to the City demand unites movements that are committed to a just city. In the face of ever-increasing right-wing radicalism, the climate policy rollback and ever more blatant social inequalities, resistance to this is very energy-sapping. That’s why left-wing spaces are needed to regain strength and exchange ideas within the movement. The great experiences that hundreds of activists have had in recent years have shown that the Right to the City Forum creates such a space. There is room for exchange and inspiration, controversy and discussion, eating and celebrating together and everything that initiatives need to recharge their batteries.
The forum is a good opportunity for local initiatives to discover that their problems, the strategic issues they face and the solutions they have found exist just as much elsewhere. In this way, we can not only learn from each other, but also become a strong nationwide movement that is anchored locally but is heard at all political levels. Only together will we be strong!
Why Chemnitz? As a major city, Chemnitz combines problems that can also be found in other growing metropolitan regions with issues that many medium-sized cities in the federal states of the former GDR are facing. Shrinkage, strong demographic change, vacancies and the right to take up space raise questions about the right to the city. Chemnitz offers space, and this space is contested. In a city that is (still) affordable, the major event of the European Capital of Culture 2025 is intended to reactivate vacancies, change the image and make the city attractive to investors. At the same time, funding for culture and social affairs is being massively cut and places are being forced to close, while right-wing structures and their continuity, which in some cases goes back decades, are disappearing into the background and are barely being considered.
2025 is an important year in which the city will be in the spotlight: Chemnitz, the so-called ‘City of Modernity’, will become the ‘European Capital of Culture’ (together with Nova Gorica/Gorizia) and thus receive international media attention. As the activist scene organising the forum, we want to critically question this event: What is made visible at such major events and what is not? What do slogans and narratives hide about societal and social issues? And we want to ask what this means in practice: how can we use the festivalisation of cities in such a way that the relevant social and ecological issues of the right to the city and the strengthening of solidarity structures come to the fore and ensure that it stays that way?
The right place in the right year to show that there are numerous initiatives in Chemnitz and beyond that are campaigning for the right to the city in all its dimensions. Through redistribution, a different way of doing business and social climate policy, we can counter the shift to the right. And this is not possible without participation in society for everyone, including those on a budget and those affected by racist discrimination. We can only achieve this together. So, get involved!
What can I contribute?
The forum lives from your contributions, topics and struggles. Workshops, but also plenums, films, demos, performances, city walks and other actions and events can be organised. You determine the topics of the forum from your local struggles in your regions and cities, nationwide; they are as broad as the right to the city: urban policy, housing supply, migration, ecological issues, access to regional and healthy food, culture, queer feminism, mobility. But it is also about rural areas, open spaces, vacancies, remodelling and demolition.
Bonus programme: the Chemnitz strand
During the forum, a programme strand will deal explicitly with Chemnitz. Together with you, we will take a look at the city, current and upcoming struggles, the major European Capital of Culture project and look for ways to strengthen local structures. We also welcome submissions for contributions of all kinds.
As a rule, a contribution lasts 2 to 2.5 hours.
Please submit your proposals (max. 300 words, title & topic, schedule, organisers, material and space requirements) for workshops and events by 28 February 2025 to info@rechtaufstadt-forum.de. We want all formats at the forum to be as practice-orientated and interactive as possible. We ask you to take this into account when making your proposals. You can offer a workshop with several groups from different cities, or report on individual battles: We are happy to be surprised in the AK programme and adapt your proposal to our framework (time, space) accordingly!
